Some thoughts on Algae-based oil

I've been following alternative energy for most of my life. The very
first energy crisis - during the Nixon Administration - happened at a
formative time in my life, and I've been looking for answers ever
since.

I haven't had time to read everything posted here, so I may be
repeating matters already covered.

1. How about making dried algae into pellets for those stoves that
burn corn or wood pellets?

2. Instead of farming algae in ponds, what about artificially
stimulating algae blooms in the ocean and scooping it up? There's a
LOT of open sea out there that doesn't get put to much use.

3. Final solution may be to take the oil-producing genes out of algae
and stick them into bacteria that can digest anything organic. Then
we're not limited by sunlight and atmospheric CO2, we can use organic
feedstock such as garbage, crop waste, or switchgrass.

Interesting thoughts, some of these are actually being tried out (especially the last one, in what is known as the microdiesel - producing biodiesel from micro-organisms such as bacteria). Excellent food for thought.
